Module introduction video template

  |  6 min read

A short (1-2 minute) video introduction can help students feel oriented, motivated, and connected to you. You can use or adapt the template below to quickly plan a concise, student-centered video introduction for any week or module.

Quick tips

  • You don’t need to read due dates. Students can see those in the LMS, and leaving this information out allows your video to be reusable.
  • Try to focus on clarity vs. completeness. Students don’t need everything noted, especially if this information lives elsewhere in the course.
  • Be conversational and authentic. Students want to get to know you!

Organize your thoughts

Length: 10-20 seconds

Content:

  • Welcome students to the week/module.
  • Introduce the big idea or a compelling question.
  • (Optional) Share a quick story, example, or why this topic matters.

Length: 45-60 seconds

Content:

  • Highlight the most important concepts or skills in this week/module.
  • Briefly mention key materials (prioritize, don’t list everything).
  • Call out 1–2 important activities or assignments.
  • Emphasize why these tasks matter or how they connect to learning.

Length: 15-20 seconds

Content:

  • Offer a guiding question, tip, or common challenge.
  • Help students think about how to approach the work.

Length: 10 seconds

Content:

  • Encourage students and express support.
  • Remind them how to reach you if needed.
